Oh I do love what I do. And when I got an invite to this event, it took exactly 2 seconds to say yes, I’m there, arrange a day off and begin training. You see, spending a day in Cape Town doing whisky things, hanging around with whisky lovers and having an adventure is a great thing to do. And I’m going to do it. Photos will follow, no doubt. As will injuries – my knees are a bit older than me.
And I confess that I am partial the the Bushmill’s Black Bush. I love it and it is one of my regular home drinks. But enough of that – here is the press release.
South Africa the new home of the Bushmills distillery for one night
The global “Make It 2 Bushmills” competition, which was won by South African friends Sean Tickner and Jonathan Oliff, is drawing to an epic conclusion on the 8 December 2011, when the Bushmills distillery will come on tour to Cape Town.
Make it 2 Bushmills, which was hosted by the Bushmills Irish Whiskey Master Distiller Colum Egan, saw ten pairs of friends from ten different countries compete earlier this year in a series of challenges at the Bushmills distillery to determine which pair of friends had what it took to bring home the distillery.
Sean, a 30 year old prosthetist from Cape Town and Jonathan, a 28 year old brand strategist from Durban did SA proud by winning the ultimate whiskey prize: two weeks at the world-famous Old Bushmills Distillery, where they made their own unique blend of Bushmills Irish Whiskey whilst living in luxury penthouse accommodation with £5,000 spending money.
The final part of the prize is that winners Sean and Jonathan get to bring their unique blend back to SA along with various elements from the Bushmills Distillery itself (including the exceptionally rare Bushmills 12 Year Old Distillery Reserve Whiskey) for a homecoming party in authentic Bushmills style.
“In the spirit of ‘bringing home the distillery’, we will also be recreating the challenges that our finalists Sean and Jonathan conquered in the Make It 2 Bushmills final,” said Dominic Malan, premium whisky marketing manager at brandhouse.
“Consumers lucky enough to win an invite to the big party on the Bushmills Facebook page will be given clues that lead them to various locations in and around Cape Town where they will go head-to-head with Sean, Jonathan and the winning pair’s friends to try their hand at challenges like barrel rolling, cocktail mixing and whisky tasting to name a few,” said Malan.
After the challenges have concluded, the final destination of the homecoming party will be revealed where guests will be entertained by Irish singer and songwriter Foy Vance and have a chance to meet Bushmills Master Distiller Colum Egan, the man behind the Make It 2 Bushmills competition.
