Azure restaurant brings the Cederberg to Cape Town

Although travelling to the Cederberg in the Western Cape is an adventure well-worth exploring, two wine and food experts from the area have decided to do the travelling instead.

Floris Smith, Executive Chef at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat and David Niewoudt, Winemaker at Cederberg Cellars, will be bringing the beauty of the Cederberg to Cape Town in April when they will present an exclusive wine-and-food pairing evening at the Twelve Apostles’ Azure restaurant.

Award-winning individuals on their respective turfs, Smith and Niewoudt have an illustrated knowledge of gourmet food and classy wine offerings.

Smith, whose dishes have been described as “creative” and “genius” has been the Executive Chef at Cederberg’s most exclusive destination, Bushmanskloof Wilderness Reserve & Wildness Retreat for seven years.

Niewoudt, with family roots in the Cederberg, has been farming grapes and producing wine at Cederberg wine farm since 1997. His wines – a collection of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Viognier and a bit of Bukettraube – are well known and well-praised by wine lovers and –judges alike.

Combining their talents on 18 April, chef and winemaker will provide diners with a culinary feast not to be missed.

Smith’s renowned culinary skills will be matched with Niewoudt’s award-winning wines in a five-course affair, served in one of Cape Town’s prime dining spots, Azure restaurant at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa. The menu will comprise of salmon trout ravioli, duo of guinea fowl followed with oxtail. A serving of dark chocolate cremeux followed with baked buchu and chilli camembert completes this decadent meal.

Diners interested in enjoying this combination of gourmet food, fine wine offerings and views to match are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
