What I love about Whisky Live is chatting with the guys who travel round the world spreading the love about Whisky. This afternoon a group of whisky guys are gathering at Bascule Whisky Bar at the Cape Grace (where else) to chat about the Diageo Malts with Andrew Bardsley. Below is some info about Andrew and next week I’ll report back on what he had to say.
“Andrew Bardsley has 16 years experience in the drinks industry and has spent most of these years appreciating Scotland’s finest export. As Diageo’s Global Malts and Communications Development Manager Andrew has developed unique insights into Scotch Whisky.
On graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University, Andrew spent several years in the hospitality industry, including as a Food and Beverage manager and spirits training specialist, before joining Diageo in 2004.
Here he gained valuable experience in a sales role, engaging with customers and consumers, promoting and conducting tastings to promote whisky sales, and learning about consumer preferences and attitudes to whisky.
Building on this experience, since 2010 Andrew has led the annual series of Diageo Special Releases, focusing on the sampling, production, quality control, exclusive presentation and marketing of the company’s luxury limited-edition single Malt Whisky bottlings.
This prestigious project, delivered in partnership with the company’s highly skilled whisky making teams in Scotland, has given Andrew valuable insights into the richness and variety of the company’s Scotch whisky inventory, and of the complexities of blending and liquid development in super-premium whiskies.
During this time, Andrew has continued to run tastings both internally and externally and enjoys sharing his great passion for Whisky with others. Whether he is nosing the next cask strength sample or enjoying a dram with friends, Andrew is never happier than when he has a dram in hand.”
