Your official job title:

Owner – Aficionados Premium Brands: Liquor Importer, Distributor and Retailer

What is an average week for you?

An average week at this time of year is pure chaos:

Finalising bottlings and incoming shipments in time for the Festive SeasonPreparing for and presenting at Whisky Live and other food and drink shows;

Identifying and trying to respond to all the opportunities to get word of our new products out to the market

Processing the surge of trade and retail orders that come with the Festive Season territory, and doing my best to respond personally to customer enquiries;

And trying to squeeze out a handful of Tweets and Facebook posts in-between

What is the message you want to get across to consumers this year:

After a fairly dry spell, there are a number of exciting new single malt whiskies that have arrived in SA recently – and a whole lot more in the pipeline. Some are returning favourites (like Edradour) and others completely new to the SA market (like Kavalan, the new Macallan 1824 range, a number of new Glenfiddich and Glen Grant expressions and the new Private Barrel bottlings from Checkers). This isn’t just from us of course – a number of importers are putting in a great effort to make new and interesting whiskies available.

What’s different for the consumer this year at the FNB Whisky Live SA Festival?

The bad news is that due to new Scottish legislation that came into effect at the end of last year, it’s no longer possible to offer Whisky Live visitors the opportunity to bottle their whisky straight from the cask at the show. The GOOD NEWS is that an exclusive single cask bottling of Edradour has been arranged for the show. Unusual for Edradour, it’s a first-fill Bourbon cask. Bottled at 46% and yielding a modest 263 bottles it is likely to sell out really quickly.

We’re also in the process of bottling and importing a series of Whisky Live exclusives and these will be available for tasting at the Whisky Live Exclusive Bottling stand
