Branching off from the core range of oak-aged beers, renowned for their distinctive toffee and vanilla character, Innis & Gunn Lager (4.6% ABV) is a beautifully crafted Helles-style lager that uses native British ingredients with some Innis & Gunn flourishes. Launched in its home market Scotland in 2013, Innis & Gunn Lager has proven to be one of the fastest growing craft beers in the UK.

Rowan Leibbrandt, Partner at Truman & Orange, exclusive distributor of Innis & Gunn in Sub-Saharan Africa comments: “Innis & Gunn oak-aged beers are known to be complex and big-flavour beers. We’re often asked by Innis & Gunn fans for a sessionable Lager, and we felt it was time to give it to them!”

Unsurprisingly, given Innis & Gunn’s award-winning approach to beer-making, Innis & Gunn Lager is made using a unique recipe and innovative techniques to deliver the fresh, crisp character of Lager alongside the flavoursome taste profile Innis & Gunn beers are famous for. A key feature of Innis & Gunn Lager is the addition of naked golden oats – specially grown without husks so more flavour can be extracted during brewing.

Dougal Sharp, Innis & Gunn Founder and Master Brewer comments: “I wanted to give our consumers a refreshing but flavourful lager that would deliver a really rewarding taste experience in the same way they’ve grown to expect through our oak-aged beers. This recipe uniquely uses Golden Naked Oats for a subtle nuttiness and rich mouthfeel, lager malt and large quantities of Super Styrian and Styrian Goldings hops for bitterness and aroma. We also use our own yeast and a specially designed programme of liquor treatments to enhance the characteristics we get from the malt and oats.”

Innis & Gunn Lager will be available across the country in all good quality liquor and craft beers stores, in 330 ml bottles, and will cost around R26-28/ bottle.
